The Last Frontier Ride
10 DAY TOUR
Mongolia
Follow the Footsteps of Genghis Khan—On Two Wheels.
DATES: 1-10 JUNE 2025
Starting from Mongolia’s capital, Ulaanbaatar, our journey takes you through sweeping green steppes, serene turquoise lakes, and the breathtaking hills and mountains that define the heart of the country. Traveling from central Mongolia to the remote western regions, you’ll eventually head north, nearing the Russian border.
Prepare to ride through one of the most remote and unpopulated areas on Earth, embracing the freedom of the open land like the eagles soaring overhead. As you ride, you’ll rest in traditional Gers (Yurts), immersing yourself in the rich and time-honored nomadic culture. Northern Mongolia’s rugged terrain offers an awe-inspiring setting where ancient customs remain a vital part of everyday life for the resilient nomads who roam these vast landscapes. This motorcycle expedition is crafted to offer a once-in-a-lifetime adventure—tracing the paths of the old Mongol empire, much like Genghis Khan once did on horseback nearly a millennium ago.

Day 1: Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Welcome to Mongolia—land of vast skies and ancient legacies. Upon arrival at Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Ulaanbaatar, you’ll be greeted by our team and transferred to a centrally located hotel. The rest of the day is yours to relax, recover from your journey, or explore a bit of the capital. Known as the cultural and economic hub of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar is a fascinating blend of old-world monasteries and modern high-rises. In the evening, you’ll meet your fellow riders and the support crew over a traditional welcome dinner where you’ll be briefed about the exciting days ahead. Get your first taste of Mongolian cuisine and soak in the vibe of this vibrant city. Overnight stay at a comfortable hotel.
Day 2: Ulaanbaatar to Elsen Tasarkhai (280 km, 6–7 hours)
After breakfast, a short transfer by bus will take us out of the hustle of the city to where your motorcycle adventure begins. Your bike—either a rugged Royal Enfield Himalayan or a powerful KTM—awaits you at the edge of the steppes. Today’s ride takes us across dramatic landscapes to Elsen Tasarkhai, an area of semi-desert and sand dunes often called the “Mini Gobi.” If you’re riding a Himalayan, you’ll navigate around the dunes; on a KTM, you’ll dive right in and test your sand skills. The scenery is stunning—rolling dunes, granite hills, and herds of camels grazing on the horizon. You’ll reach your first ger camp by evening, where a hot meal and a cozy traditional yurt await. This is your first taste of true Mongolian nomadic life. Overnight in a ger camp under the stars
Day 3: Elsen Tasarkhai to Orkhon Waterfall (170 km, 7–8 hours)
After a hearty breakfast in your ger camp, we saddle up and ride deeper into central Mongolia. Today’s journey winds through vast grasslands, rocky outcrops, and forested hills as we make our way toward the famed Orkhon Valley—home to the stunning Orkhon Waterfall. This UNESCO World Heritage site is steeped in history, once the heartland of the Mongol Empire. Along the route, we’ll stop to refuel at Bayandalai and ride close to rolling sand dunes, enjoying lunch in the serene valley. The off-road trails can be demanding but exhilarating, with river crossings, volcanic rock paths, and wide plains opening up around you. As you approach the waterfall, you’ll hear its roar long before you see it. A hidden gem, the Orkhon Waterfall plunges dramatically into a basalt canyon, offering the perfect photo op and a moment of awe. Settle in for the evening at a traditional ger camp, where you’ll share stories over dinner by the fire.
Day 4: Orkhon Waterfall to Tayhar (170 km, 6–7 hours)
Today we head west through a varied and scenic route. The landscape shifts constantly—open steppes become dense forests, while distant mountains keep us company on the horizon. Our goal is Tayhar, a charming village along the Tamir River. The day starts with rugged off-road tracks, leading us through remote mountain terrain and quiet forest paths. Midway, we’ll stop to visit a natural hot spring tucked away in the wild—so don’t forget your swimsuit! Soaking in the warm mineral water is a welcome break for tired muscles. Afterward, we ride on to Tayhar, a place where traditional nomadic life remains untouched by time. Here, you’ll get a firsthand look at how families live in harmony with the land, moving with the seasons and depending on their herds. Expect warm hospitality, delicious homemade dishes, and a deeper connection to Mongolian culture. Overnight in a ger camp by the river.
Day 5: Tayhar to White Lake (155 km, 8 hours)
Though the distance may seem modest, today’s route is packed with adventure and jaw-dropping scenery. We journey toward the volcanic region of Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park, home to the stunning freshwater White Lake. Formed by an ancient volcanic eruption, the lake is encircled by lava fields, pine forests, and extinct craters. The ride takes us through remote trails, crossing rivers and weaving through herder camps where horses, yaks, and sheep roam freely. The highlight of the day is the dormant Khorgo volcano—you can even hike up for panoramic views if time allows. Upon reaching the lake, the landscape opens up into an alpine paradise. Crystal-clear waters stretch out before you, framed by black lava rocks and rolling green hills. It’s a surreal and peaceful setting. Tonight, we stay in a lakeside ger camp where the air is crisp, and the silence is only broken by the call of wild birds. Dinner includes locally caught fish and warm hospitality.
Day 6: White Lake to Zurkh Lake (300 km, 8 hours)
Today is one of the longest rides of the trip, taking us far north into the remote wilderness of Khuvsgul province. The journey to Zurkh Lake is challenging but incredibly rewarding, with dramatic changes in terrain and endless natural beauty. We’ll pass through untouched forest regions, rocky mountain paths, and vast open plains where the sky feels endless. Zurkh Lake itself is one of Mongolia’s hidden gems—a remote and peaceful body of water surrounded by dense taiga forest. It’s not easy to reach, which makes your arrival feel all the more triumphant. After a long day in the saddle, you’ll be ready to relax and enjoy the serenity of this pristine landscape. The lake area is home to various bird species, and if you’re lucky, you might even catch sight of wildlife like deer or wild goats in the surrounding hills. After a satisfying dinner in the camp, fall asleep to the sounds of the forest in your cozy ger.
Day 7: Zurkh Lake to Khuvsgul Lake (250 km, 8 hours)
The ride today brings us to the crown jewel of Mongolia’s northern frontier—Khuvsgul Lake, often called the “Blue Pearl of Mongolia.” Stretching over 136 km and surrounded by snow-capped mountains, it’s one of the largest and deepest freshwater lakes in Asia. The ride is thrilling, with forest trails, rocky climbs, and winding paths that lead through remote areas rarely seen by outsiders. Khuvsgul is also culturally rich—home to the Dukha (Tsaatan) reindeer herders, shamans, and several ethnic minorities. Upon arrival, you’ll be struck by the lake’s sheer beauty: deep blue water, alpine forests, and a feeling of untouched purity. We’ll explore the surrounding area, perhaps even visit a herding family if the opportunity arises. Tonight’s ger camp is located near the lake’s shore, offering a magical setting for reflection, photography, and rest. As the sun dips behind the mountains, the sky turns golden, and you’ll feel like you’ve reached the edge of the world.
Day 8: Khuvsgul Lake to Khoridol Saridag Mountains (240 km, 5–6 hours)
Today, we venture into the wild highlands of the Khoridol Saridag mountain range—a haven for nature lovers and adventure riders alike. This region is known for its dramatic alpine scenery, wildlife, and complete solitude. It’s a full day of off-road riding through high-altitude trails, past glacial rivers, and through valleys painted with wildflowers. We’ll seek out nomadic families along the way and, if we’re fortunate, be invited into their gers for tea or fresh yak yogurt. These rare, unscripted encounters are the soul of the Mongolian experience. You’ll gain a profound respect for the nomads who thrive in such a rugged environment. The riding here is exhilarating—challenging yet rewarding as you navigate rocky passes and open ridgelines with sweeping views. Dinner tonight is earned, hearty, and shared in good company. Your ger camp is nestled among the mountains, and as night falls, the sky comes alive with stars.
Day 9: Khuvsgul to Murun City – Flight to Ulaanbaatar (150 km, 5 hours + 2-hour flight)
This morning, we ride south toward Murun, the provincial capital of Khuvsgul. The route gives us a final taste of Mongolia’s raw beauty, with open pastures and distant peaks. The trails gradually give way to smoother roads as we approach the organized streets of Murun, a quiet town that feels like a gateway between wilderness and civilization. After lunch, we’ll board a short domestic flight back to Ulaanbaatar. Once back in the capital, you’ll return to your hotel, where a hot shower and soft bed await. The evening is yours to explore Ulaanbaatar’s nightlife—perhaps visit a local bar, live music venue, or do some last-minute shopping at a traditional market. It’s the perfect chance to reflect on your journey and celebrate the adventure. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 10: Ulaanbaatar – Departure
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel as the final chapter of your Mongolian adventure unfolds. Depending on your schedule, you may have time for a stroll through the city’s vibrant streets, a visit to Gandan Monastery, or souvenir shopping at the State Department Store or local cashmere shops. We’ll arrange your transfer to the airport for your departure flight. As you leave, you’ll carry more than just memories—you’ll take with you the spirit of the steppe, the freedom of the open road, and a deep connection to a land that few truly experience.
